There are a number of different things that will prevent the AI processing from working in Link Whisper, and based on our experience, here are the most common ones:
Running out of credit on the OpenAI account.
OpenAI works on a pre-paid service method, so there needs to be a high enough balance on the account before processing starts. When there isn’t enough money on the account, OpenAI rejects the incoming requests and no progress is made in processing.
A safe balance to maintain is $10, and OpenAI has an option to allow it to auto-charge your payment method to keep it at a comfortable threshold. (The will email you when they charge you, so there won’t be any surprises when the end of the month rolls around.)
If you have set up auto-charge, but you’re not seeing data, or are getting billing errors, it’s possible that the linked card has expired and needs to be updated.
If you don’t know what your account balance is, you can check it by going here: OpenAI Billing Portal.
Running AI processing on multiple sites at the same time.
Link Whisper’s AI processing is calibrated to get the maximum processing speed for a single site. We do this by sending OpenAI the maximum amount of data we are able to safely.
As a result, running the AI processing on multiple sites is very likely to exceed the API limits they have in place.
If you’re seeing errors like “Rate limit reached for gpt-4o-mini in organization org-xyz on tokens per min (TPM): Limit 200000, Used 197767, Requested 4397. Please try again in 649ms”, then there’s too much data being sent and the limits are being exceeded.
Additionally, the limits are based on “organization,” not the API key. So even if you create separate keys for each site, they will all still draw on the same pool of available data processing.
It is possible to increase the limits for your organization by moving into a higher usage tier.
The OpenAI usage tiers are based on time since your first payment on the platform and the amount spent, so moving into a higher tier doesn’t cost you extra for API use. The tier system is designed to prevent abuse, and to make it more difficult for spammers and banned users to misuse the API.
Link Whisper doesn’t currently support your site’s page builder.
Extracting the content to send to OpenAI for processing can only be done if Link Whisper supports the site’s editor/page builder. If the builder is not supported, the content is essentially “invisible” to Link Whisper and it won’t be able to package it up and send it off for processing.
If you’re not sure if your site’s editor/page builder is supported, we have the list of supported builders available here: What Editors Does Link Whisper Support?
