What are the Sitemap Settings and what do they do?

With the 2.4.9 update of Link Whisper, the Sitemaps now have an on-screen setting menu with multiple powerful settings.

For reference, here is the sitemap with only the default settings applied.

Only Show Main Cluster.

The setting to only show the main data cluster, tells the Sitemap to hide all of the posts that aren’t connected to the main data cluster. This is useful for cases where you are working on a site that has one main topic area, and you want to focus the map on that.

Hide Unconnected Nodes.

This setting hides all of the nodes (posts) that aren’t connected to any others on the site. This cleans up all the single nodes on the map, while leaving smaller clusters of data on the map that aren’t connected to the main one.

Grouping Strength.

The Grouping Strength slider controls how strongly the nodes are grouped together. A strong Grouping Strength pulls the nodes into tighter data clusters, while a weaker strength allows the nodes to spread out and associate more loosely.

Adjusting the Grouping Strength is useful for arranging the nodes so they’re easier to work with. For example, a tighter grouping will make data clusters stand out more prominently. While a looser strength can make the individual nodes easier to identify individually.

(Note: To adjust the Grouping Strength on a finished map, please set the map in motion by clicking on the Map Generation setting.)

Map Generation.

The Map Generation setting allows you to play/pause the map generation to suit your needs. If for example, the map needs a little more time to arrange all of the nodes, you can click the “Play” button to set the map in motion and watch it arrange itself into it’s finished layout.

Additionally, if you want to stop it early, you can click the setting while the map is in motion to stop it.

AI Sitemap Only: Show Linked

The AI Sitemap’s Show Linked setting tells the Sitemap to highlight all the related posts that have links between them.

When you click on this setting, all of the lines between related posts where there are links will turn into a green highlight so you can easily see that they are linked.

AI Sitemap Only: Show Unlinked

The AI Sitemap’s Show Unlinked setting tells the Sitemap to highlight all the related posts that do not have links going between them.

When you click on this setting, all of the lines between related posts where there are no links will turn into a blue highlight so you can easily see that they are not linked.

Additionally, this setting allows you to easily create inbound links between posts that do not have them. All you need to do is hover the mouse over a line where you want to create a link, right click on the line to bring up a popup menu to “Create Inbound Link” and then click on the menu.

After clicking, you’ll be redirected to a modified version of the Inbound Suggestions page, where Link Whisper will check to see if it’s possible to create a link between the posts.
